Q&A: Designer Kelly Motley talks the ethics of AI, how churches can use it
Visual designer and grad student Kelly Motley shares insights into how AI can help—or hinder—churches and churchgoers in a Q&A with Amen Peoria.
Besides being the creative director at St. Paul Baptist Church in Peoria and a freelance visual designer, Kelly Motley is studying for her master’s degree in artificial intelligence in business through Arizona State University. We asked her for some insight into the rapidly developing field of AI from a Christian viewpoint. (This is the full version of the Q&A.)
Amen Peoria: What’s your experience with artificial intelligence?
Kelly Motley: As a designer, my experience with AI has been about finding ways to make the creative process smoother and more impactful. I’ve used AI to streamline administrative tasks, develop ideas, design automated systems, and help with some of the tasks associated with content creation. All of these things free me up to focus on the bigger picture—crafting compelling narratives and designs. What I love most about using AI is how it can teach and inspire. If you embrace its ability to guide you toward solutions and don’t underestimate your own capacity to learn, it can be a powerful partner in helping you reach your goals.
